Work-from-Home Scam Victim Recovers £8,800 with Legal Support

What happened?
Shortly after her sister’s sudden death, Wendy was doing everything she could to keep life on track for her family. With two children at university and growing financial pressure, a flexible work-from-home job seemed like the ideal solution.
The scammers, posing as a company called JK Recruitments, set up a professional-looking website and maintained regular, friendly contact. Over time, they convinced Wendy to make a series of payments which they claimed were necessary “investment requirements” for the job.
She did her best to check the company’s legitimacy, but the scam was convincing. In the end, she lost over £8,800 from her Monzo bank account – the last of her sister’s life insurance money.
The emotional toll
The financial loss was significant, but it wasn’t the only impact. Wendy suffered from ongoing anxiety and stress. She became withdrawn from social situations and found it hard to talk about what had happened.
